New School Year Information
for School and Hybrid Matches

First Day of School
WSR's first day of school is Friday, August 23rd.
Getting Started...
I hope you are getting excited to see your mentee soon! I guarantee they are looking forward to meeting with you again :) Here are a few things to know:

I will be waiting to contact your mentee's teacher until the second week of school. I like to give the teachers and kids a week or so to get settled before adding in mentoring.

Please let me know if there are any days/times you prefer to meet with your mentee. Along the same lines, please let me know if there are any days/times you cannot meet with your mentee. Shoot me an email or text anytime with those details so I know before contacting their teacher.

Most matches will start meeting the week of September 16.

Throughout the Iowa State Fair (Aug. 8-18), the MidAmerican Energy Foundation will donate $1,000 to 10 community organizations nominated by the public. Plus, on the last day of the fair, one of those 10 winning organizations will also be randomly selected to win the $10,000 grand prize!

Community-Based and Hybrid Match Activities
|
These are activity ideas for matches in the community-based or hybrid programs only. School-based matches are only allowed to meet at the mentee's school or an AIM event.

Annual Old Time Power Show
Antique Acres, located outside of Cedar Falls, is known for its annual Old Time Power Show. This event showcases farming equipment, tractor pulls, working demos, flea market, live music, food vendors, and more!
Admission: $15/day; Children 12 and under FREE

Panthers on Parade
The Cedar Falls Tourism's Panthers on Parade, a community pride project, features the University of Northern Iowa's TC Mascot. Embark on an adventure to visit 27 artist embellished 6-foot-tall fiberglass mascots, displayed at various locations throughout Cedar Falls and the Cedar Valley.
